Ever since Vogue reported that nautical-themed jewellery was set to be big this summer, I've been keeping an eye out for any pieces containing pretty pearls, blue gems and iridescent shells.
Those who want to give a subtle but colourful nod to the sea trend will love the ocean-blue hues that can be found in Philippe Ferrandis's collection, while fans of statement jewellery won't go unnoticed in these offbeat fish pendant earrings from my long-time favourite, Ayala Bar. Madrid-based designer, Ricardo Douahi, features sea colours in these nature-inspired, hand-embroidered earrings that recall beautiful ocean flora.
Need something more flamboyant? I was pleased to discover that my latest delivery of Askew London jewellery contained a number of marine inspired pieces, each one replete with the usual Askew sparkle, detail and decoration. While Sue Askew's work is admired by designer jewellery fans worldwide, each of these pieces is part of a very limited run, making them perfect for those who want something that's both high-fashion and one-of-a-kind. These three are fit for a mermaid princess:

Red is for... winter jewels. It's creeping up to the end of January, with another couple of potentially bleak months ahead, but it doesn't all have to be doom and gloom. Red is the perfect shade for winter. Yes, it's festive but it's also full of the promise of good things to come: red roses, strawberries, homemade raspberry jam, ripened tomatoes, and of course, red hearts for your Valentine.
One of our favourites, Askew London's Art Deco red paddle clip-on earrings, are set with original red ribbed glass stones, as well as tiny jet black and crystal seed glass stones. Konplott's 'Blood Bite' collection, a stunning selection of necklaces and earrings created from resin flowers and red Swarovski crystals is also beautiful. If you prefer something a little more 'ethnic' that will take you right through to summer, Trousseau hand carved red agate earrings are perfect.
Rings are one of the big 'fashion' trends for 2014, so if you fancy flashing a splash of colour, Ollipop's large bronze filigree red resin glass ring or Konplott's 'Blood Bite' large red crystal ring are both real head turners.
So it may be a month of wellingtons and umbrellas, but we're not going to let the English winter dampen our spirits with these beautiful red jewels to cheer us up.
